Researchers from the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and their collaborators have adapted a CRISPR gene editing technique and used it to find new therapeutic targets for acute myeloid leukaemia

Research finds that CRISPR technology inactivates cancer mutations

Geneticist Jennifer Doudna co-invented a groundbreaking new technology for editing genes, called CRISPR-Cas9. The tool allows scientists to make precise edits to DNA strands, which could lead to treatments for genetic diseases … but could also be used to create so-called “designer babies.” Doudna reviews how CRISPR-Cas9 works — and asks the scientific community to pause and discuss the ethics of this new tool. Scientists have found a way to use CRISPR gene editing to help fix sickle cell disease (SCD) and beta-thalassemia in blood cells isolated from patients, providing proof-of-principle for a new approach to treat common blood disorders by genome editing
