Application note: automated cell transfection and reporter gene assays

Reporter gene assays have greatly helped our understanding of gene regulation and signal transduction in vitro and in vivo.
They are widely used in molecular and cell biology studies, as well as in biomedical and pharmaceutical research and development. A typical reporter gene assay includes cell transfection of a reporter gene sequence cloned into an expression vector and the determination of the gene expression level by measuring the reporter activity. We demonstrate here how a reporter gene assay can be automated using two Biomek NXP workstations, yielding accurate and highly reproducible measurements of reporter activity.
